ART HISTORY, ARCHITECTURE AND VISUAL CULTURE IN THE LESKOVAČKI ZBORNIK

Abstract

During the sixty years of existence of the Leskovački zbornik, more than a hundred papers in the art history field have been published. The conference about cultural heritage has been held National Museum Leskovac biennially since 1986, which has contributed to the increased production of works in this field. The research results and papers published in the Leskovački zbornik initially referred to the area of Leskovac and its surroundings. Over time, the spatial and temporal range of themes in art history has expanded. The term southeastern Serbia was defined and introduced after the number XXXVII of Leskovački zbornik, which will refer to the published research. The conference thus changed its name to the Cultural and Historical Heritage of Southeastern Serbia. Considering medieval art and architecture, the attention of researchers was on prominent topics and unexplored monuments. Publishing the results of new field research was also in the focus when it comes to the period of the 15th18th centuries. Art and visual culture of the 19th century was researched more intensively in the area of Vranje and its surroundings, therefore a larger number of works in the Leskovački zbornik are considering this area. The period after 1878 was in the center of interest due to the relationship between politics and visual culture in the area of Southeastern Serbia. Special attention was paid to the activities of numerous architects in the area during 19th and the first half of the 20th century. The reasearch of the art of the 20th century is closely related to the area of Leskovac. Leskovački zbornik has positioned itself as a leading publication in the field of art history related to southeastern Serbia by encouraging research and publishing a large number of papers and contributions.
