Abstract

„Leskovački zbornik“ is one of the oldest and most prominent local scientific journals in Serbia. It has been published continuously from 1961 as annual of National Museum in Leskovac. During six decades of issuing it has built valuable tradition and quality. The aim of this paper is to analyze all texts published in „Leskovački zbornik“ dealing with history of education, schooling and enlightenment in the area of the Southern Serbia. All such contributions from 1961 to 2019 are took into account, regardless of the volume and quality. The quantitative analysis was performed and the structure according to the historical period and topic of the texts was considered. Finally, the form and the quality of the works, applied methodology and their contribution to the historiography are briefly presented and evaluated. In 59 issues of „Leskovački zbornik“ 96 texts related to the education and schooling are published (about 6% of all published texts). There were 49 authors with various profession and affiliation. The observed works were mostly dedicated to the period until 1918 and to the life and activities of the teachers and professors in Southern Serbia. Nonetheless, works on the other historical periods and about other topics (such as schooling system; schools; pupils and students and their social activities; various phenomena and processes related to the education and schooling), can be found in the journal. It can be concluded that the number of works about education and schooling in the „Leskovački zbornik“ is small and insufficient. Also, the published works are mostly traditional, non-innovative, based on traditional methods.
