SRPSKI JUG – MAGAZINE FOR SCIENCE AND ART OF SOUTH SERBIA 1994–2000

Abstract

Srpski јug, a magazine for science and art, is a literary-scientific magazine that was published intermittently in the period 1994-2006 under that name. The subject of the analysis of this paper is its first phase, i.e. the first seven issues. It was published in Belgrade. The magazine intended to promote the values   of southern Serbia in science, literature and art. The initiator and editor-in-chief was the writer Ivan Ivanović, later he was replaced by the historian Momčilo Pavlović. The contributors to the magazine were famous writers, economists and others. In addition to them, there are also unaffirmed authors whose works were first published in the journal. The magazine published texts from literature, several branches of science such as history, economics, geography, etc. and nurtured a discussion on various issues. In all issues, it especially pointed out the economic backwardness of southern Serbia and negative demographic processes. In the first phase of publishing, i.e. the first seven issues of Srpski јug, over a hundred works and articles from various spheres of social work were published. Most of the works are in the field of literature and history, in addition to them, there are also numerous works in philosophy, law, economics, religion and architecture. The magazine was enriched with documents, various testimonies and artworks. In a word, Srpski јug was a real multidisciplinary magazine.
