ASSASSINATION AT THE „PARK“ HOTEL IN NIŠ 1941: FACTS AND MYTH

Abstract

The assassination аt the Park Hotel in Niš took place on August 3rd, 1941. It was the result of a well-organized action by the Communist Party of Yugoslavia, but also an isolated act of an individual. Accordingly, in the decades following World War II, Socialist Yugoslavia used this assassination for propaganda purposes, uncritically changing the facts for its own benefits. This article analyzes the reality of the current assassination, but also its inordinate idealization after the war, seeking the difference between truth and the instrumentalization of historical events.The text is divided into three parts - general context, assassination facts, and mythologization.
