Abstract
Gaul, with cultural and educational centres in Bordeaux, Autun and Trier, used to be a centre of oratory in Roman Empire in the 4th century. Schools were opened for the youth of Gaul in these cities, as preparation for service in public administration. Latin panegyrics from 3rd and 4th century are speeches of prise, dedicated to Roman Emperors. By these speeches, the native of Gaul authors wanted to show the loyalty of inhabitants of Gaul to the Roman rulers and to present their own people as part of Roman civilization. That’s way to influence the formation of political attitude of the youth of Gaul, and to prevent possible rebellions and secessions of the territory of Roman Empire.
