ANTROPOMORPHIC FIGURINES FROM THE SITE LOKVE-SELIŠTE IN THE VILLAGE OF RAZGOJNA

Abstract

Archaeological site Lokve – Selište in the village of Razgojna, municipality of Leskovac, has been investigated since the year 1951. and some of the first official archaeological surveys of the Leskovac valley. During this period, archaeologists found various archaeological prehistory material, dated to the Early Neolithic and the Vinča culture. Since this period, until the last several years, there hasn’t been any new results regarding this site, even in the later surveys. Until a local citizen, an archaeological enthusiast Mr. Hranislav Mitić found new archaeological material while searching on the surface of the agricultural fields. He presented his archaeological collection to the archaeological department of the National Museum of Leskovac, after which a short prospection was introduced which resulted in a new series of materials such as pottery fragments, figurines, stone tools, flint blades, loom weights, daub fragments etc. The private collection of Mr. Mitić was investigated and the department found some amount of valuable archaeological material from prehistory, Roman, and the medieval period. There are six Neolithic figurines that were investigated from the collection of Mr. Mitić, which were presented in this article.
