THE TOWN OF TRSTENIK ACCORDING TO THE CENSUS OF 1884

Abstract

This paper provides an analysis of the census of the town of Trstenik in 1884. The census carried out that year differs from the others, since the first one was carried out on the basis of the “Law on the Census of Personnel and Property”. In the introductory part, the paper contains a description of the development of Trstenik as a part of the Kruševac district from the liberation to the 80s of the 19th century, with an analysis of the already existing censuses and the development of the mentioned town. The main part of the paper contains an overview of the occupation of the inhabitants of the town of Trstenik in 1884, as well as their financial status, with a detailed description of the land and the shops they owned. The paper is written on the basis of unpublished and published sources and relevant literature.
