Abstract

Serbian-Bulgarian relations have a long history marked by different stages, from friendship to hostility and fierce conflicts. Therefore, dealing with Serbian Bulgarian diplomatic relations in the period after the Berlin Congress and during the wars of the beginning of the 20th century offers numerous answers to the complexity of relations between neighbors, but also shows the geopolitical interests behind it. In the first part of the paper, we will present the development of Serbian-Bulgarian relations throughout history, in order to understand in that context what led to the deterioration of relations. Following the development of events, an analysis of the activities of foreign political factors with regard to Serbian-Bulgarian relations is inevitable. With this in mind, we will use historical geopolitics as a sub-discipline of geopolitics in order to understand the context, interests and reasons that led to the deterioration of relations between the two nations.
