COMMANDERS OF THE 1ST INFANTRY REGIMENT “PRINCE MILOŠ THE GREAT” IN VRANJE 1920–1941

Abstract

The paper presents a brief history of the 1st Infantry Regiment “Prince Miloš the Great” as well as brief biographies of the officers who led this unit from the demobilization of the army in May 1920 until the April War of 1941. During this period, the regiment was commanded by only five officers: Radoslav Petković, Aleksandar Stanković, Milutin Milovanović, Adolf Kilar and Vladimir Prica. Three of these officers, Stanković, Milovanović and Kilar, reached the rank of general during their careers, Petković retired with the rank of colonel, while Colonel Prica’s further career was interrupted by World War II. The paper is based on archival materials from the Military Archives, published sources, and relevant literature.
