Abstract
When it comes to the Moravа banovina, we must take into account the poorly developed system of health and social care, inherited from the previous period. The territory that included most of Central Serbia (Serbia before the Balkan Wars) with unique development of all its parts. We are talking about a territory whose cultural and educational level was far below that of the northwestern regions of Yugoslavia, due to a lack of funds and professional staff. The poor hygienic conditions in which children grew up were a feature of almost all regions of the Morava banovina. Official statistics compiled for the needs of the banovina record primitively built houses, without basic hygiene conditions. Examinations and care for children were carried out by school polyclinics and infant dispensaries. The work of these institutions was controlled by experts from the Hygiene Institute in Niš, and the reports of this institution are a valuable source for studying the health care of children.
