Abstract

The paper examines identity conversions as an insufficiently researched topic in Serbian historiography, arguing that they have had significant consequences for the Serbian national identity. It analyzes historical and contemporary examples of religious and national identity conversion, with particular emphasis on the Croatian and Montenegrin national movements, seeking to explain their psychological, sociological, and political dimensions.

The paper concludes that a more systematic study of identity conversions, particularly in the Dinaric region, is necessary in order to better understand their historical consequences and their impact on the development of Serbian national identity.
