Abstract

Dissatisfied with the decisions of the London Peace, Bulgaria attacked the Serbian army at the Bregalnica river and thus started the Second Balkan War. A week later, Bulgarian troops attacked Serbian positions on the line of Daščani Kladenac - Vlasina. The Third Infantry Regiment was particularly prominent in defending Tumba peak. Considering that the border front from the Čemernik mountain to Bukova Glava was defended by only one battalion of the First Regiment, the newly arrived reinforcements to Serbian forces on Vlasina stabilized this part of the front. The tenth infantry regiment even made a breakthrough towards Bosilegrad, but the Bulgarians also sent new forces so that a great battle took place on the Miljevske Mountains. In the following days, the Bulgarians put pressure on Serbian positions in order to break through to the Južna Morava river and occupy the Niš-Skopje railway and thus threaten the supply lines of the Serbian army in the Bregalnica. Despite all the attempts, this did succeed, because the Serbian defense was impenetrable.
